Program Overview

Purpose To contribute to the advancement of academic research in Japan by supporting fundamental and applied research on carbon materials and related technologies.
Target Full-time researchers conducting independent research at universities, affiliated research institutes, inter-university research institutes, colleges of technology, or public research institutions in Japan.
Award The program provides a total of JPY 30 million in funding, with grants of up to JPY 3 million per project.

Eligibility Requirements

Affiliation and Position

Full-time researchers affiliated with an eligible institution and conducting independent research.
For fixed-term researchers, employment during the first year of the grant period must be expected.
Project researchers and postdoctoral researchers are eligible, provided there are no restrictions on their acceptance of external research funding.

Age

Applicants must be under 40 years of age at the time of application.
Periods of nursing care leave, maternity leave, childcare leave, or similar leave may be considered upon submission of supporting documentation.

Multiple Applications

Applicants must not currently be receiving funding from the Foundation.
Multiple applications within the same fiscal year and duplicate applications for the same research theme to other funding programs are not permitted.

Grant funds may not be used for salaries, social insurance expenses, indirect costs, overhead, or administrative expenses of the applicant, co-researchers, or their affiliated organizations.

Grant Administration

Grant funds are provided to the recipient's affiliated institution, not directly to the individual researcher.
Fund administration must follow the institution's research funding policies.

Research Outcomes

Recipients are encouraged to actively publish and present the results of research supported by the Foundation.
Publications and presentations should acknowledge the Foundation’s research grant support.
The Foundation does not claim any rights to patents or other intellectual property arising from the supported research.
